Three Killings Reported in Columbia Maryland Mall

Late Saturday morning/early afternoon gunfire could be heard coming from a shopping mall in Columbia, Maryland 140125132555-08-columbia-mall-shooting-horizontal-gallerypolice stated.

Howard County Police Chief Bill McMahon said that apparently, the shooter shot two people before turning the gun on himself and killing himself in a store on the second floor of the mall. No motive has yet been established.

The suspected shooter’s body was found near a shotgun on the floor of Zumiez, a shop that sells skating equipment, police said.

Police entered the mall and found three people dead, including one person who was found near a gun and ammunition. There was no indication of additional shots being fired. The scene was secure shortly before 1 p.m., police said.

A federal official briefed on the shooting said that the preliminary information points to the shooting having been related to a domestic dispute.

A hospital spokeswoman said in a statement that four people were transported to Howard County General Hospital, . They were not in bad condition. One patient had a gunshot wound in the foot, the others had injuries after the shooting. McMahon stated that one person had a seizure and another an ankle sprain.

Mall employees stated that shots erupted near the second-floor food court late morning, sending workers and shoppers running for cov
